Gardena is a diverse, centrally located community situated in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County, just 13 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles. Gardena’s location provides easy access to five freeways allowing residents to move easily between the Los Angeles and Long Beach airports, the ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach and San Pedro and the many attractions in the area. Incorporated in 1930, Gardena is a mature community with lush landscaped neighborhoods. The Gardena Library offers story time every week and holds the distinction of being one of two libraries in Los Angeles County to have an authentic Japanese Garden. Children in Gardena attend local schools that are part of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Nearby colleges and universities include Cal State Dominguez Hills, University of California, Los Angeles, Loyola Marymount and University of Southern California.
